Never had anything but a fish mounted, so I was slightly nervous. The taxidermist came recommended by some family and friends. It took him from November to August to get mine finished as he was really busy. Very happy with the result. The buck was in deep rut with the most swollen neck I’ve ever seen, so I made sure to tell him I wanted his neck to look similarly swollen. I also mentioned That the part I remembered most was his breath coming out like a frost so thick it stuck to his whiskers. I could see the water dripping off his whiskers from 40 yards away. In the pics you’ll see what the taxidermist did to replicate it. After the shot the buck ran away and doubled back almost running me over, he would have if I didn’t tuck behind a big oak. He was a dead deer running though. Two lungs and the heart from a 12 gauge slug. I took pics of where I was and his blood trail on top of it. I’ll try and find those. Thanks for looking! Best of luck to all this upcoming season.

Side note on the buck: my grandma was a big deer hunter and a hero of mine who has passed away a few years ago. I sat where her stand would have been if the oak wouldn’t have toppled over a few years ago. Her old tree stand made of a few 2x4s is under that Dead oak. I let a bunch of does and smaller bucks walk by before he came along. Now I know why my grandma always hunted there lol!

I can attest to no BS on the water vapor freezing in MN this last season. I hunt Northern MN every year and last season it was -15 F with the wind chill on opening morning. My breath formed icicles on my eye lashes sitting under the tree.

Awesome buck and fantastic mount! Congrats!

Nice Buck and great story, I know when I explore a new piece of Deer-Woods and I come across an old stand or what's left of an old Stand that the older generation of deer hunters put that stand there for a reason...They knew where to put them.....I've used those same stand areas with good success in my hunting days.

It was a little chilly last season! It got the deer moving though, I never complain when it’s cold during deer season. They gotta stay warm too!

Nice buck and the mount looks great. Who was the taxidermist?
Master of design out of Willmar. He doesn’t take as many orders as he is getting up there in years. This year I kind of made reservations With him if I get my bear or a good muley or whitetail. Super nice guy and his wife takes the calls, She is an absolute sweetheart. I’ll be pretty sad when he hangs up his hat. It feels like having a good taxidermist takes a lot of the worry out of the hunt.
