For years, I carried the original Tamron 150-600 (G1) lens for wildlife and nature photography. It was a workhorse that produced great images but I usually ran it at f/8 to get the sharpest images. Since that lens came out, Sigma has released two 150-600's to compete with it. Their sport lens is for professionals who abuse their gear. It's heavy and expensive but robust. This "Contemporary" lens is intended for lighter use and it's much lighter in weight and costs about half as much. I have to say, I'm VERY impressed with mine. I've been shooting it wide open at f/6.3 and the images are very sharp. As sharp as my old Tammy at f/8.
I paid this much for mine used. $784 for a new one is an absolute steal, considering all this lens can do. There is no more affordable way to get into quality wildlife and nature photography than pairing this lens with a clean used D7100 or D7200 body.
