Im adding a second safe but only have room to put it in the garage here in fl. So im looking at installing a dehumidifier to keep the guns from rusting. Im only going to be putting the cheaper guns in it but id like for them to stay in good shape aswell. Ive read that the goldenrod dehumidifiers due well but ive also read that they are just heaters and really dont reduce humidity. Due any of you all have any suggestions on good dehumidifiers. I know here in fl humidity is going to be an issue that has to be addressed
Thanks to all in advance

Im in central KS so keep that in mind. my liberty safe is in my basement. Humidity varies widely. I use a small heater with a fan and a rechargeable box of desiccant with a saturation indicator. Recharging the desiccant is done easily in the oven. Never had an issue

Due you know what type of heater and fan. Ive always kept my safe inside an air conditioned home before and never worried or had a problem so this is a different ballgame for me

Second the goldenrod. Lifetime warranty and made in the USA(at least when I got mine). I also throw in a desiccant device that plugs in to an outlet to recharge once wet.

This is what I have in my garage gun safe. I thought the desiccant was overkill but I do have to recharge it a few times a year so it must be doing something.

What Zap said, plus VCI product such as ZERUST, plus desiccant, in your climate. Heating rods are fine for lower humidities and lower temperatures in higher latitudes. You’re almost in the tropics. WD-40 Specialist (not the old blue/yellow can) tested as one of the longest lasting most effective rust preventives.

I have my safe in a reasonably dry basement with a golden rod and I would say it is not enough. It basically raises the air temp in the safe and surface temps of the guns just enough that condensation occurs elsewhere in theory. I still use it but I also run Silica canisters and damprid in mine and have had some light rust spotting on some older blued guns.

For my non shooter guns, I coat them in synthetic motor oil and that had seemed to prevent surface rust.
