I’ve got a 1995 Cherokee that’s 2WD. Got it for free so I’m not gonna complain about it being 2WD.

Right now I have wrangler AT tires on it. It does fine for most situations, but I’ll be in Wyoming for 10 days mid October. I’m expecting to see some snow and mud. Most of my hunting can be done from decent roads...so I’m more worried about snow driving than deep mud which I will just avoid if it rains a bunch.

what would you guys suggest for chains or cables?

I would get chains over cables. I have RUD grips and they are super easy to put on and have saved me many times.

Call BlueJay Industrial in Hayden, ID. Talk with them about your needs. They will hook you up with exactly what you need.

I went through hell last year in November in Wyoming.
First day big storm, snow. Then warmed up and the snow melted and the rest of the week was mud.
I got my $ss handed to me.
I was prepared, but like you only have a two wheel drive Explorer.
I went with one set of Peerless chains and a set of Truck Claws.
I used them all and then some.
Had to go buy a second set of chains by third day
( for the fronts).
