I went to Idaho fish and game office in CDA this morning thinking that Ill easily get my non resident archery elk tag...WRONG. First choice...sold out.....second choice.....sold out.....third choice sold out. I ask "what's left"?.....walked out with a Panhandle tag. Could be worse...no tag.

Don't get me wrong, I love N Idaho but, well....most of you guys already know.

Not really complaining here. Just saying.....I suppose it could have been worse: no tag anywhere

Having hunted the panhandle for a few years.......hmmmm 40 I can say it is not the way it was a decade ago due to wolves, but you still can shoot a 300 inch bull every year with a little luck and time afield....if I did not have the history with it I would go somewhere else as I’m after big at this stage and up until this last season have let little guys walk holding out.....this season did not see a bull and rubs were limited from my extensive history....so I will be changing things up a little and looking to see if these guys made it🤙

With adequate scouting and as already stated (luck) we should be fine. Already looking forward to it. And yes- I will have my wolf tag :)

I can think of 6 spots off the top of my head in the panhandle with bulls like that I see on a regular basis, there's still some out there for sure. The only downsides I can think of in the Panhandle would be backpacking in deep and glassing. Aside from that, for elk anyways, I don't see a problem except the ******* fourwheelers driving around gates, but that can be avoided.

But all in all, there's nothing wrong with the Panhandle. Carry the most epic rain gear, a big revolver, and plan to do a LOT of hiking.

Edit-Ross, your trailcam pics never get old. Feel free to share😍
