I just picked up a box of 230 Atips for my 300 PRC.
If I can work up a good load before rifle elk season I'll give them a go and report back

Midway has the twist rates. The 110 needs a 7.7, the 135 needs a 8.5, the 153 needs a 8, the 230 needs a 9, and the 250 needs a 8.5 twist

I tested a few loads with 230 A tips in my 300 PRC this weekend.
I worked up to 3000 fps according to my chrony..
I had my target against a 15" pine stump and at 200 yards they certainly expanded, I dug a few jackets out of the dirt behind it.
If I can get a good load together I'll be using them on elk this season.

WesternHntr posted some pics so I thought I would too. I did these tests about a week ago. I'll say that this wasn't a perfect test because these bullets were not fully stable at a muzzle velocity of 1688fps nor was the bullet RPM what it would be if the target was hit at distance starting at a normal muzzle velocity. I expect they would be more expansive at a long range impact. These were shot out of my 9 twist RUM with a reduced load of Trailboss at a muzzle velocity of 1688fps at point blank range.

Shot through wet newspaper, wood and then into the bottom of a water filled 15 gallon drum.

Yeah it'd be cool to do that test at 800-1000 yards with a full charge.
I'll try to recover a few at long range when I get a chance

For me I know they'd work at that distance at a muzzle velocity of 3225fps. I'm much more interested in the 1600-1800 fps impact speed range which would be in that 1500 yard range with my set up.

Tumbleweed I'm asking because I would like to see this bullet work for hunting application. With your last test above what makes you think these will work at say 2000 fps impact have you tests at higher impacts yet? I've got a new build coming that will push a 230 gr. at 3170-3190 muzzle velocity. Which puts me right at 2050 fps at 1000 yards with this bullet. Thanks

Reduced loads at close range do not translate to full distance results due to ratational velocity.

Was hoping for more of a 175ish .284 for a SAUM but interested if the offerings anyway..

Interested to see what #'s they get out of the 338s.. Was just thinking it might be fun to get a big 338 or 375 barrel for the Desert Tech.

I'm a fan of a lot of Hornady products and I really like that they are always coming out with more stuff for shooters. And once the bullets are "out" there you usually don't have trouble finding them in stock. But how does a bullet company announce a new bullet, that they must have tested extensively, and leave the " minimum recommended twist rate" blank on their website?

Others' recent hunting reports are leading me to believe they're expanding ok out to the 2000fps impact speed. Results have been said to look very similar to 230 Berger hybrids. I know in my own reduced load tests, the 230 Berger Hybrid behaved very similarly to the 230 A-tip when shot through wood. I have to say, the 225 ELDM outperformed both by a fair margin in the reduced load tests though

I was able to test expansion with the 230 A tip today at 680 yards.
I shot into a 22" diameter cedar log since it's the softest wood around..
Velocity at impact was 2270 fps, the bullet expanded beautifully and penetrated 21".
The recovered bullet weighed 178 grains,
I like what I see so far
