Curious to see how many days you dedicate to hunting elk - during your specific, licensed season - Archery - ML - Rifle.

As few as possible. I’ll usually shoot the first legal bull I get a chance at. It’s taken from two to ten days during archery season the last eight years.

I figure to hunt all I can but hope not to have to. Retired and live here in the zone. Might take a day or two off to wash clothes and resupply.

Usually in the range of 15-20 days. About 1/3 as many days as we spend hunting the stuff that eats them.

15-20 days or tag out during archery season. And probably another 5 - 10 days helping out friends and family during rifle seasons.

To explain 22+.

Year round when I’m not working 3 jobs. Usually with a spotting scope and phonescope. I constantly practice working around herds without getting busted. I’m not into pushing elk.

Preferably I’ll spend 8-20 days with a bow. Regrettably due to popularity, I’ll fall to draw a bow tag and will be stuck rifle hunting 4-6 days counting pack out. I’m in no hurry since if I wasn’t trying to harvest an elk I would be out there anyway.

For now I put 5-7, because 6-7 is my limit with vacation and my buddies limitations. Within a few years I hope to double that.

Only been chasing them since ‘12 and have kept pretty accurate records of it. First couple years might be off by a couple days.

2012: 20- skunked- A/R
2013: 15- bull- rifle
2014: 13- skunked - A/R
2015: 3 - bull - archery
2016: 19 - bull - rifle
2017: 13 - skunked - A/R
2018: 8 - cow - rifle

Avg: 13.

I’ve moved at least twice a year since ‘12 for seasonal work and that has been a major issue in years I was skunked.
Success 4/7 isn’t horrible but not great. I’d prefer if it was 7/7.

This is the first year I’ll have 2 bull tags in my pocket and it’s shaping up to look like 25 or so. 9-10 in OR & 14-15 in WY

7 days in the woods, 3 day traveling. Thinking about elk hunting 365 days. Not enough time to hunt but what do you do. Only so much vacation.
