This is my first big buck in NY. Have shot others before for for upstate NY this is a real treat! Public land to boot! 600 yard drag, 400 mountain 200 bog. Look at what the innards look like after tye drag through the bog.

Completely submerged at times. This was the hardest drag of my life. I purposely didn't quarter him because this year I would REALLY like to try and hang the deer and age it with the hide on!

So my question is Can I still age it? How should I clean it?

Hose it out and wipe it dry and clean with paper towels. Then hang him up. Great buck. No problem hanging him for a while to age. Might get warm tomorrow but its cooling right back down friday. What area you in?

Good washing/drying. I can't imagine you drug it through anything that would be worse than gut shooting one.

x5 with the rinse it off. I have never dried any deer off but obviously I hang them in an area with good air flow. If you hang it from the rear make sure you have it opened up so any water doesnt just sit in the chest cavity.

Looking at what I see as the shot placement, gutting could have waited until after dragging it. You may want to consider that in the future.

Process now without rinsing. Rinsing may spread the bad stuff to other areas of the carcass.

I agree, hose him out. Consider misting the body cavity with vinegar.

I would hose out and let hang in good air flow. cut down through the brisket to the neck let that area drain if you hang from the back legs (that is how I hang them). I personally like to get the skin off as soon as possible as it is just plain easier to skin. I have at times did 90% of the skinning and pulled the hide back over the carcass.

I am with you. It would be could day in Hell before I drug a deer with the guts in. Especially if you don't split the pelvic bone there is very little to actually get dirty. Pull the tenderloins out before dragging if you are worried about it.

Like others I don’t know about why to age with the hide on.

I’d have quartered the buck and packed the quarters and the skull/cape. It’s a lot easier and a lot lighter.
