Had rotator cuff surgery on September 4th on my right shoulder. Shot right handed all my life. I was determined to get out this season, so I taught myself to shoot left hanged! With a little help I had one of my best seasons.
Determination and Drive anything can happen!
PS just got the clear today from the surgeon. One day left of goose season.

Congrats on a great season and having the stones to get after it so soon after surgery. I had a great season, not really for myself but with my kids. I whiffed on archery elk but got back into some country that we were burned out of several years ago and got close several times. In my old age it was great to put the pack on and head up the hill in the dark after my sons football games on Friday nights. Was a weekend warrior for elk.

Did put a whitetail in the freezer. Had a week long hunt but my son who is a senior, had a state championship football game in the middle of it that shortened it. (Lost by a TD, but played a heck of a game rushing for 180 yards and a couple scores as well as two picks on defense) Had pretty low standards on that hunt and shot a small 4x4. My boy who is the football player, put an antelope in the freezer. My oldest son shot a forkie mule deer on the only weekend that he could come home and hunt. My youngest filled her first tag around volleyball season. Last weekend took my brother in law out calling and he whacked his first coyote, which is the first ever animal that he has harvested. All in all a great hunting season with the fam. Next year will be a bit more about me as I will be down to just one kid left at home and no more high school football. That is both bitter and sweet.

I'm always thinking bowhunting, and the first thing I thought was "I don't care which shoulder you have rotator cuff surgery on, you won't be shooting a bow very soon right or left handed".

I can shoot rifles either handed.......never tried to shoot my crossbow RH. Whatever it takes if it gets you out during the season. Good job.

My season started off a little slow by getting skunked elk hunting in CO.

I have been dealing with some shoulder pain, so I was not able to hunt with my bow when I went to TX in December, but I did take 2 deer and 4 hogs. My biggest buck was about 164" and weighed approximately 200 pounds, and my biggest hog weighed about 225 pounds, so the freezer is now full.

I am smoking one of the pork hams this weekend...which will be nice.

This has been my worse year ever, between the shut downs to my company trying to make up the sale working 6 days 60 hour weeks, to the wife figuring this is the time to do all those home projects she has wanted to see.
Frankly I have not been mentally ready to hunt, Sad so very Sad.
But most of that has passed and I am back in the hunting saddle again.

I would like to play the boo-hoo game and blame covid for plans that weren't able to happen, but even in an 'off year' I realize that Im blessed and know others would love to have had my year. So the good and bad..

Things that did happen:

Sandhill crane, 1st time doing this and it was awesome
A mediocre dove & duck hunt, nothing special but we were there
Nice whitetail buck and two doe on my dads place
Called in a couple coyotes

Things that didnt happen

Turkey - didnt even go out due to covid
NM Coues - covid & didnt draw this year... could have paid for an outfitter tag ... but mehh
Goose.... no goose but we did get on cranes and that was cool
Pheasant.. scheduling just didnt work this year

Like I said, im blessed but 2020 could have been alot better.

My best season ever - by far.

Two mule deer, an elk, and a javelina.

Lots of sheds.
Learned a ton about turkey hunting.
Lots of cool exploring over the summer.
Wife shot catfish with her bow.
More time archery hunting than ever before.
We both shot deer.
We both shot antelope.
Kids came along for a bunch of it which makes it even better.

A great year.

Well, I had a rather lengthy whine list I was ready to post.
But lets just say 2020 wasnt in the cards for me and hope to
do better this fall.

In chronological order: hunted AZ in January, killed a small 3x3. Shed hunted a ton from March-June, killed a Turkey in May, archery Antelope and my biggest archery bull to date, then a big Mule deer in November and my GFs biggest mulie to date same trip. Then a bunch of pheasant hunting, and archery again in AZ this January, passed on smaller bucks, didn't end up shooting one. Hell of a year.

Shot a 135” 8pt on opening day morning. My second buck was killed the morning of October 26th he scored 130”. I was then out done by my 15yr old son who’s shot this 143” 8pt on November 11th. All three of these bucks were shot out of the same double set and I was able to video my son shooting his deer. 2020 was our best deer season yet.
