Any bladesmith’s out there? I was given a knife of my grandpa’s several years back after he passed. It Never gets used because of the length. Thinking of having it cut down for a skinning/hunting knife. What do you guys think? Would you? I just hate seeing it sit there collecting dust. It would get way more use with a 3.5-4” blade. Obviously there is a process to cutting hardened/tempered steel.

I wouldn't mess with it. That's too cool.

Maybe use it during butchering at the house.

I had somewhat of a similar situation… after my father-in-law passed away he had a bunch of old bastard files no one wanted. I took them home and they sat in a drawer for years. I finally sent them out to have knives made out of them.

Now that his grandkids got into hunting I gave each one of them a knife… which they absolutely cherish.

My gut says - make something out of it that will remind you of your grandpa and not let it sit in a drawer collecting dust
