As the title says I missed tonight. This piece of property is new to me and I just started hunting it this year. After setting up a couple treestands and hunting a little I got the feeling I just wasn’t in the best spots. So, yesterday morning my son and I built a ground blind in what I felt is the best spot to be at. I wasn’t wrong because a small 6 point came cruising by at 12 yards this evening! I got to full draw and grunted but he wouldn’t stop. He wouldn’t stop at any of my noises. Just as he almost left my shooting window i released and the arrow went low. I’m sad I missed but happy my instincts were correct and am pleased with a couple hours work spent outside building this with my 4 year old son.

I sometimes forget to “Pick a spot” and the end result is a missed opportunity. Keep at it!

I went 0/3 last year. #1 I hit the nuckle, zero penetration, deer lived. #2, bottom limb hit the tree, missed right over the back. #3, I just shot high…think I looked too quick and didn’t hold it. Bottom line is, we’ve all been there. Keep at it, you get to keep hunting!

couple days ago I had two bucks (140” 8 at 13 yards broadside and A gnarly 150” 10 at 5 flippen yards) and didn’t get a shot at either. Dang big boy at 5 yards turned in my lane and faced me. Hell of an encounter, can’t for for the next one! And day before I had a 120” 8 at 22 yards for 5-8 minute, just couldn’t get a shot through some thick cover.

We all have some pain and good learning experiences. It’s why we kee at it, good luck!

Here's one to make you feel a bit better. I had a 170 class buck at 15 yards and perfectly broadside and didn't manage to even pull my string back. I thought he was looking at me. Turns out he was starting at the doe that snuck up behind me. I waited for 2 minutes for him to turn his head. He never did. Instead he started chasing that doe and ran 4 circles around me before they both ran off into the bush like love sick teenagers.

If I had known that doe was there I would have tried to at least draw on him.

Sigh.

Just got back from the most exciting weekend of bow hunting in 20 years. I was watching deer regularly including a 150+ monster who was in love with my doe decoy. He just wouldn’t commit to circling to the important part to give me a shot. If I was still using my crossbow he’d most likely be deceased. Anyways, I still enjoy the practice and persistence. Keep at it boys!
