I’ve been hunting in idaho for like the past 11 years or something only 20 yrs old born and raised here. I’ve been bustin my ass training and preparing for elk every year and don’t see Jack maybe a couple cows every now and then I elk hunt 10a am I just in the wrong unit or what lol. I have no fear of putting on miles I typically go around 5 one way. No issues gettin on whitetail those elk just get me lol any help would be appreciated

Elk hunting is tough in many places. An acquaintance hunted 10a last year and was into manyyyy bulls and lost a very big one. If you have hunted that many years and aren’t getting into bulls you need to change how you are hunting. I would start reading old posts on elk tactics.

I don’t know anywhere else besides 18 and I never get the draw got it once at 12 years old and missed a 5x5😂. It’s just close to home lol

May need to refine your hunting skills. Pay close attention to the wind. Maybe change up which way you go after them, don't call too much, dont dive right to where you hunt and listen and smell.

Elk are where you find them not where you want them to be sometimes.

Best of luck to you out there, I'd spend time looking at elk hunting tactics and how they compare to what you're doing.

I've hunted 4 different units in 3 years (my tag and my dads tag). Killed a Bull with my bow last year in a brand new unit and got my dad a bull the last 2 years with his rifle tags in brand new units each time. Exploring new units and areas is a ton of fun and anyone can do it. If you haven't seen or heard Elk the last 10 years you need to stop hunting those areas and jump into something new. Push out of your comfort zone. Go try a different part of the state. Spent a lot of time in North Idaho, never hunted it but I can confirm that is the absolute toughest part of the state to kill an elk. Go try somewhere new and have a blast.

What tag do you purchase?

That’s a fair point just so damn thick up there lol. That’s some reassurance tho
I would imagine it is a combination of learning to set up correctly, calling correctly and understanding wind.

Have killed any or came close?

fair enough, finding the time is the hardest part
Make the time. Not trying to bust your balls at all. But you will have to figure out where and where and find a way to sirens the time you'll need to know where to hunt.
