Idaho snow in May and bear habits

Looking for info on how the snow is for driving (historically) from McCall to 19A/20A. Me and my buddy are planning to drive up from Texas late May for a bear hunt. I’ve got some connections in there and know the area slightly from a trip in August. Is driving from McCall into there possible (normally) that time of year with snow?

Second question, if we found bears in August is there a decent chance we will find them in roughly the same area in May?

I know these answers are based on tons of circumstantial factors but there should also be a kind of “general” rule. Any information is better than no information. Thanks guys!

My understanding is you can get very far past McCall until like June. If not later. But I haven't seen it first hand. Thats just what I've been told from some buddies

Probably not likely. It snows in May in McCall sometimes. I would check Snotel sites if there are any in that area. At the base of the ski mountain outside McCall (6050') they have 147" of snow.

May might be a little early unless a hot smell in early spring. June would be more realistic.
