Import duties? Any customs brokers on here?

I used to know a few brokers but t's been many years, and google hasn't really been my friend on this so far.

Anyone know anything about import duties on optics from Japan? I haven't made up my mind on new or used yet, if that matters. Actually, if it does, that may sway me.

I've found posts on a couple birding forums that said there are no duties under $2000, as long as it's for personal use. I've CBPs site, Internet Purchases link , still no joy.

So, has anyone purchased optics from Japan, binos-spotters, and what if any duties/tariffs did you have to pay?

Most optics from japan are duty free. However, you may still have to pay a brokerage fee—that will depend on the carrier.
