If you look at a lot of these guys getting political you’ll see their hired guns from the left and don’t even post about hunting.

No doubt some members post history would be crossing this threshold.

Can you point those people out to us and support that statement? I've not noticed that to be the case and would be happy to be shown otherwise.

I highly doubt there are any “hired guns on the left” here on Rokslide? My guess is he’s referring to the same half dozen guy’s who appear to lean to the left that post on every single political, social issue thread on here. Always the same guy’s... always the same tone.

There are "hired guns" on all social media forums especially those forums that have a conservative leaning membership. Their goal is to create dissent within the group by appearing to be members of that group see Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals below ...

  1. "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition."
  2. "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. "

Hunting, guns, etc. are a huge target for the left and this site is a target rich environment for them.

Yep. There's those guys. There's also the half dozen guys that live in a very liberal area that are probably a conservative where they live. They think pretty highly of their opinion can't seem to understand that they're just a slightly less liberal, liberal to all of flyover country.

Makes me thankful for the “ignore” button. Helps me avoid nonsense.

I see those tactics used more by right wing guys on this particular form. I just assumed it was the result of human nature and hunting being largely the domain of those who are right of center. Are you arguing that anyone who personalizes or polarizes a topic should be seen as a "hired gun?" It would certainly make it easier to dismiss all ideas I don't agree with as propaganda.

As Gen. Patton said "If everyone is thinking alike, than someone isn't thinking."

I think it is time for me to bow out of this thread as I'm pretty sure I've reached the point of the proverbial dog returning to its vomit.

If anyone quotes/replies to me I will read it. Otherwise, you gentlemen have a good day.

I was quoting the poster's characterization.

Are you arguing that anyone who personalizes or polarizes a topic should be seen as a "hired gun?" ... please read what I posted again. I believe I was clear in stating that people who are against what many stand for on this site, are actively working to disrupt our platforms for open discussion.

Open constructive debate and disagreement is good. It should stimulate people to look at an issue from different perspectives.

One would be naive to think this site is not a target for disruption tactics by the left.

You are extremely logical and use reason in your arguments. However, it's been my experience that reasoning with people acting extremely unreasonable is near impossible. I've cut back on this a lot myself. Good that you are too!!

Possibly... I've been on hunting forums since Al Gore discovered the internet. There has usually been one or two extreme leftists. I "think" many of them hunted a little and I think they got off trolling Conservatives. That was the group consciousness. I believe the media, schools, pretty much everything have been pushing such a liberal agenda for such a long time, even historically conservative past times like hunting are slowly turning. That's not all bad, either, but most is. I also think there are moderately liberal guys that love to hunt and some are on this forum. No, I don't believe this site is infiltrated by leftists that don't hunt. I believe the folks here would smell them out. Any non hunting leftists on this site would be looking for comments or confessions that they could show others to make hunting look bad, like wounding animals, long shots, etc. Bill

The option to not click on something is always there and when a topic goes against what a person wants to read, they can always close it. Politics and religion will always be divisive. Unfortunately, a difference in opinion on a forum normally leads to childish posts with name calling and insults instead of thinking that maybe another reasonable person could have a different, equally reasonable thought on a topic.

Last I looked at the poll on this, (it’s set where you can only see if you vote, so I had to hack around it,) most people are not voting for a change to a separate political forum.

And I tend to agree. I’d rather delete the threads that get out of hand then have a forum that invites more of them.

And by the way, for any of you members that have quite a few posts on here, that would like to be a moderator, send me a resume.

Always looking for more GOOD help. Need to have the Rokslide vision for hunting smart and hard, and a heart to help others learn (except units & honey holes, that’ll get you fired ). Light IT experience is nice but not necessary. Need to have a handle on English obviously. And must be willing to wait a week for Ryan to answer emails. (Sorry bud but you’ve come a long way. Used to be a year . )Need to spend a few hours a week moderating. Must yield ban hammer on occasion but that’s the fun part

And if you’re ever interested in becoming part of the staff, that’s how we usually start people anyways, as a moderator.

As far as this thread, I’m glad the OP put it up, but if it starts recycling itself, I’m just gonna lock it.

Liberalism isn't the problem--Marxism is the problem.

I would like a 3rd option. Keep it the way it is.

Things are way too unstable and relate to hunting to not be able to discuss it. We just don’t need a separate section for it but we also don’t need to bury our heads in the sand.

The mods do a really good job with this already.

Didn't read past page 1 but the above stance is exactly how I feel.

Yes, you appeared clear in it only applying to the left. As double standards are generally viewed as bad, I assumed you did not really intend it that way. Thanks for the clarification.

It could also be argued that thinking Rokslide is not targeted by the GRU is naive. While the GRU does not care about political ideology, on a place like Rokslide the goal would be to push people further right to increase national discord. I see no value in routinely using such a filter though as it only closed of willingness to have a discussion. It is generally used to delagitamise the holder of a position, rather than the position itself, making it a form of ad hominem attack. Plus, it generally provides no benefit that cannot be better gotten through sound reasoning and application of principles.

Ad hominem attacks tend to close off open discussion as surely and effectively as censorship over time. To provide any value, such accusations must be made with cause against a specific individual, then they can be investigated and if supported, acted on appropriately.

I still yield the field unless specifically invited back with a quote/reply. Have a good day.

I have a nephew who is a college math prof fitting this profile. He actually thought he was conservative, claimed to be. We had a discussion on what a conservative is and he hesitated. Well, then he proclaimed top be a FISCAL conservative. We then had a discussion of what a fiscal conservative was, and then he again hesitated. He was aghast by the thought of keeping taxes as low as possible for both the citizen and business while keeping spending also as low as possible. He then proudly said he was the most conservative member of his faculty. When I stopped laughing I told him he was surrounded by a bunch of Commies and hybrid socialists (those that take from both Fascism and Marxism). That doesn't make a lib like you conservative.
Today, he claims to be liberal.
Even those institutionalized and "educated" can be blind dumb sheep.
I had one educated person tell me she couldn't vote for Trump. Why not I asked. I just don't like him, so she said. Essentially voting or not voting for someone because of how they part their hair. Not on issues, not on accomplishment, but because I just don't like him. Sheep.
Had another guy who had voted Trump the first time but would not the 2nd. OK, why? Because of Covid. Ok, that's an issue. What issues did you have with him, that he stopped flights from China early on? What countries handled it better with better results? He had no answer. While I don't agree with him, he did choose an issue. The ChiComm virus is an important issue, and it was the Democrat Socialist Party that attacked Trump for stopping flights involving China and then Europe. If anything it should have been done sooner. But ChiComm virus is one issue. When voting there are many, many issues and every one should be considered from A - Z. From abortion to Zionism. The E for Economy, the I for illegal invaders, the J for Judicial Appointments and T for Taxation heavy ones for me but all need consideration. He too a sheep.

Sheep aren't necessarily bad people, they are just apathetic, misinformed, and/or uninformed. Many just watch the alphabet channel propaganda and eat it down like a pile of fresh clover. It's what sheep do.
THAT's why such conversations are so important, and especially so on hunting or gun related sites. I'll say again and it's VERY important...... The anti-hunters, antigun, liberals in general KNOW they can not change our opinions. That is not their intent. Their intent is to SILENCE us. Silence conservatives, silence gun owners, silence hunters. It is real, and it is happening.
