Over the next year, America’s largest fighting force is swapping its camouflage pattern. The move is a quiet admission that the last uniform — a pixelated design that debuted in 2004 at a cost of $5 billion — was a colossal mistake.

Soldiers have roundly criticized the gray-green uniform for standing out almost everywhere it’s been worn. Industry insiders have called the financial mess surrounding the pattern a “fiasco.”

What does this mean for a certain hunting camo pattern?

I don't think it will mean anything as far the hunting industry is concened if you are referring to Sitka Open Country patterns. There are better patterns if you are planning to hunt or fight a war in the desert.

Also, a lot of folks say the pixelated pattern is what was at fault. That is totally wrong, the issue was with the colors used and percentages of those colors. The USMC and the Canadians use the pixelated pattern and it works fine because they used the right colors in the right mix. The Army tried to find one color palette that would work everywhere and for God knows what reason they thought pine green would be the best one for the base color.
