I was digging through some of my dad’s stuff and found something rather interesting, the remnants of the first rifle (Remington 700 .260) he and my grandpa bought me when I was 12, which was a pretty big deal for them back then.

When I was 16, I rolled my Jeep on the way to the deer stand the day before Thanksgiving. I was pretty banged up, but my rifle was in much worse shape (pictures below).

I had thought this rifle was lost, but after inspecting it, it appears that the action and barrel survived the accident (I will have this verified professionally before firing).

I’m looking to possibly rehab this rifle on a budget with take-off or stock parts that someone else might have upgraded from and give it to him as a gift on the 10 year anniversary of the accident, I think it’d mean the world to him.

Not sure what something like this would cost or what I all need, but please PM me if you have any useful information! Thanks!

I have a new Rem 700 factory trigger I can sell you. Its stainless though.

I should also have a used synthetic stock laying around.

Hoping for a wood stock as that’s always been his preference, but want to pm me some details? Thanks!

Absolutely. I'll get some pictures of the stuff I have and send them to you in a PM.

In case you’re not already aware, that’s a 700 DM that uses a factory detachable magazine. This means that you need new detachable magazine bottom metal, a magazine, and a stock cut for the magazine release tabs. You can also use an M5 style magazine system if you want.

I did not know this, so thanks for the info! I assume this limits me from converting to a different stock/magazine/bottom setup?

It does limit you. I tried to switch one to a BDL style floor plate and it didn’t work. Now I use M5 style with AICS pattern magazines.

If I can’t find take-offs, I was thinking about going this route, is this an option?
