Hey fellas, I'm going to Anchorage for work in June, and I'm looking to go out a week early to try and get a black bear. Last year a friend of mine got a costal bear, and I want too stoked on the muscle bed bear taste. So I was thinking of trying to go and get an alpine bear and see what happens. I haven't hunted black bear before, so I'm sure there's a heck of a lot to learn, but any advice would be appreciated.

I'm mostly looking for where to start. Any units within striking distance from Anchorage you'd suggest, tactics I should be looking at... basically anything that may help.

Fyi, this is a diy kind of deal and I'm blowing most of my budget on the tag and gear I'm still gathering, so I can't fly in anywhere. Limited to a driving a few hours.

Anywhere south of Anchorage, if you're hiking in from the highway. Otherwise, Prince William Sound if you're using aircraft.
