Looking to see if any one can help me find some public land in unit 1 or 2

back story my 12y daughter and I road tripped from Arizona Friday arrived Saturday. We doubled 2 Jake’s this morning in unit 6

We can go for a seconded bird but only in unit 1 or 2.
Is there any public land in 1 or 2 we could camp near before we make the 1100mile trip home.
Pm me you have any advice

Congrats on the birds. Looks like you have to get past Salina on 70. I Turkey hunt Topeka area and east and south. I’ll see if I can find the spring atlas. Might be worth a call to the Salina warden and see if they can help.

If you have OnX, Kansas has a filter for walk in hunting access enrolled lands and the units for turkey

PLENTY of walk in with turkeys on it in unit 2, although I do not have a specific spot for you to go.

Good luck!

Thanks guys I’m gonna scour the walk-in areas this evening.
I’ll need a camp area near by also

You'll likely find some but be prepared for increased pressure in those units. Everyone is skipping eastern KS and going west where they can shoot two. Wednesday morning on 240 acres of WIHA there were 5 trucks including one with 4 guys. It's wide open stuff with enough room for 2 people to hunt without moving around at all. Properties I might see one or two NRs on the whole season have people almost every day. Saturday I took the old lady out to a property I generally have success at with little pressure. Place was covered in boot tracks and had a guy from TX walk in behind us as the bird was gobbling (one tom and 11 hens, usually 5+ toms there there). Another property that hasn't had an NR turkey hunter on it in the last 4 years had 6 pickups Friday morning hunting 3 toms. Good luck

I made it into Unit 2 on Saturday where I have hunted in the past. There were so many people and it wasn't very enjoyable. The wet roads may help as many of those public places were inaccessible by vehicle this weekend.
