Kenetrek Guide Ultra

Does anyone have any experience with the Guide Ultra or the Everstep (both with the nylon brace)? I have been running the Mountain Exteremes for a few years and really like them, but once they are broken in, I find the ankle support lacking if I am doing a lot of side hilling. The nylon brace seems like a good solution, but I'm nervous about spending almost $600 on a pair of boots.
