Hard decision. If it were me, I'd relocate the dog. I couldn't move my indoor house dog outside with kennel, just not my style. NO JUDGEMENT TO THOSE WHO DO, just not me.

We had to relocate a cat of 8 years when our littlest was born. I know some don't regard cats quite like dogs but after an 8 year relationship, it was a hard separation but ultimately for the best.

Sorry to hear about this situation.

Get a robot vacuum that runs every night, ditch the carpet, and wait to see what the specialist says.

I grew up being allergic to every thing except dogs. Try living in South Dakota during harvest with severe hay fever. i used to get shots twice a week. I used to have to wear a mask (i was ready before covid even hit haha) to skin deer they would mess me up. gradually i must have just punished my self enough because non of it affects me any more except cats they will make my eyes puff up and snot run to the floor. I dont like them any way it works out.

I would remove the carpet and vacuum alot and brush the dog. Zoom dog sups make a pill called itchy dog that has really made mine shed less and control the pet dander a bunch and he looks really nice to.

Buy a high quality Heppa filter for the house. They remove mold, bacteria, virus and pet dander, to name a few of the things they catch. Get a vacuum that also has a filter that grabs pet dander. I've got both and we don't have allergies. We just like clean air.
If the allergy becomes an issue then the dog needs another good home. Kids will adjust. My 2 and 3 year old grandsons just lost their dog. They have never not had a dog. They adjusted.

So my wife and I got the news yesterday that our 8 month old has a class two allergy to dogs. We have a yellow lab that sheds constantly. He is like a kid to us and a brother to our 2 year old.

Has anyone been in this situation? What did you guys do? Any advice?

We are talking about removing carpet from the areas our son spends the majority of the time in. We do not want to get rid of the dog if we do not have too.

I appreciate any and all advice.
Whats a class 2 allergy?

I am allergic to dogs, but have no idea what class it is. My GSP is my best buddy. We have all hardwood or tiles floors. We sweep/vacuum almost everyday. Dog isn’t allowed on the furniture except for a couple hours on the bed before we go to bed with a blanket we put on just for him.

It isn’t perfect, but I like him better than most people and we make it work.

At age 34 I discovered but accident I have had a lifelong allergy. Knowing that has literally changed my life on many levels beyond just my health.

I'd move the dog now.
what kind of allergy did you find out by accident that changed your life? not asking as a dick but i cant think of any common allergy that someone would have and wouldnt know about by the time they are our age except maybe a medicine.

My fiancé is allergic to dogs, but has always had small lap dogs. when she moved in she had some issues due to our two brittanys that were in the house. getting a good hepa filter and changing it often, and keeping the house clean (not bachelor clean) helped alot. we had to move and moved into a house with full carpets and no central air. we ended up getting a carpet cleaner and have 2 air purifiers running full time now. She seems to be fine now. both dogs and her dang cat sleep on the bed with us.

Very good question.

I learned I have Celiacs Disease.

Growing up I always had a blistery rash that doctor's chalked up to being eczema. It was so bad some years that I couldn't play football because they equipment would rub the blisters open. As I got older, the rash became more localized to my forearms, knee/arm pits, and forehead. I also would have frequent sinus issues, infections every few weeks, itch terribly, and crazy shits.

I went to a new dermatologist to see if there was any magic help for the "eczema". He looked at it and said he knew what it was, turns out he did. A small percentage of Celiac folks have the rash as a symptom, basically it is the body's way of pushing out what it believes to be toxins. https://www.celiac.com/articles.htm...sh”,a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye.

Is this real life? SMH! Get rid of the dog, your kid, is more important than a dog. You could also try a golden-doddle they are hypoallergenic.

only a percentage of the muts that are born will be hypoallergenic and wont know for a few months after having the dog.

Zoom dog itchy dog has helped my dog cut back on shedding and dander. I think a six month supply is about $90.00.

In my opinion, human life will always trump an animals and animals will never be equally family as a kid is.

If I found out my kid was allergic to a dog and I had a dog, that dog would be "free to a good home" before I left the doctors office.

We rehomed my two beloved dogs with my sister in law’s family. This was to protect the health of my daughter who has allergies on top of other issues at the time. They eventually came back.

I agree with others, put your kids first. Later down the road maybe the allergies will be less severe or you can use treatments to have a dog again.

Good luck, I know how hard that is.

Sounds like a skin reaction only? Heck 8 month olds have skin reactions to all sorts of things at that age… they may grow out of it. Vacuum often. Bathe the dog often. See how that goes.

Maybe even change the dogs food to see if that helps it’s coat stay healthier. It’s probably the dander that it’s shedding.

I can't remember a time when we didn't have a dog when I was growing up, but they were NEVER allowed in the house. I have an allergy to cats and dogs but it was never a problem......they were outside. That hasn't changed.

Find a good Allergist and see if it’s possible to do desensitization treatments for your child to the dog. It’s a long draw out process that can be expensive but it could be a solution.

A colleague of mine just completed a long process on his child who had an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts initially, to being able to eat peanuts daily without any recourse.

I would assume this sort of treatment can be done for most allergies, food or environmental. Talk to an Allergist.

Otherwise……..time to gift the dog away and replace with a dog the child isn’t allergic to.

My son is allergic. We don’t have pets. I’m not a dog person but I would like for our kids to get to have a pet but it’s not worth it. He’s already getting two shots once a week. It sucks when someone else brings a dog around because he wants to play with them so bad but then he pays the price for it and will be all stopped up for a couple days. Animals are never on the equal as people to me. I understand it’s easy to get attached but I’d cut the dog loose pronto.
