I believe our new packs from Kifaru are supposed to ship this week.

I'll be running the Kutthroat.. 4,000 ci internal frame pack. I'm 5'10" with a 34" inseam. I run their 24" external frame.

@JordanAdams is 5'4" with a 29" inseam and will have the MiniKeg.. 2800 ci internal frame pack. She also runs the 24" external frame but really the 22" would be better for her height.

Very excited to try these new packs. They will serve as our summertime scouting and backpack trip packs for now. Will update this thread as soon as we get them. If there's something you want to see, let us know here.

I'm sure this will be a great thread! I ordered a MiniKeg for my son and am still waiting for it to ship.

I have a couple on order too. Pretty excited to have a light pack for short hunts, or backpacking trips with no meat hauling.

Am I correct in understanding Kifaru does not sell a lite or ultralite 22" frame (tactical only)?

Just put on my first mile or so with 25 lbs in the minikeg. It’s exactly what I’ve been searching for. Sold my 22” tactical frame with the 22 Mag as I thought it was a little too heavy duty for casual hiking/scouting. I’ve regretted that day ever since. Man, that thing was comfortable. Went with the Shapecharge for a long while. Liked it a lot, but still left me daydreaming about the comfort of my old 22 Mag. I think the Minikeg is the answer. The comfort is there without the extra 3 pounds from a tactical frame. Plus, this internal frame does a great job moving with you.

Thinking about getting that mini keg for my daughter.
Would work depending on her size. My son is 10 with a 27in waist and a 14in torso and it’s almost too big. He’s able to wear it though. Short shoulder straps and an XS
belt.
Note: I since made a shoulder adjustment so it’s fitted more correctly.

Few pictures from earlier this week. Love the Kutthroat as a backpacking bag... for a hunting scenario pulling things in and out of the bag a lot I missed a side zip access. But the front pocket is huge, so I’d put all of the things most accessed and put extra layers/items inside the main bag. Ended up working good just needed to play with it. Used the Claymore pocket as a lid as well.. for this trip it worked well but for a longer OR a hunting scenario I’d of wanted a guide lid. Or similar, like a Bane.

Little J ran the Minikeg with a Quandary attached. Looks a little goofy loaded but it worked well for extra room for her.

Thanks for sharing Jordan.

Interested to hear more about the Cutthroat. Looking to upgrade to my first high end pack (from a Slumberjack Bounty 4500) and was eyeing it as a weekend pack ~30-40 lbs and hopefully a boned out mule deer on occasion. The weight and price are definitely appealing compared to a Muskeg 5000.

Any thoughts comparing the two (I know you had time with the 2800)?

For your purposes, I would go with that Kuttrhroat over frame/Muskeg combo. The Kutthroat is comfortable and great for that 30-40 lb range.

Mine has been stellar for keeping things light on non-hunting backpacking trips, or the one short two-day bear trip I took with it. It’s exactly what I have been missing.
