Mine was 5lbs 13.3ozs but it's .308 so I'm not sure if the mags weigh more. That was bare rifle with factory magazine but no scope, rings, sling or ammo.

Thats kinda weight I thought. The magnums I believe are atleast 6 oz or so heavier. That scope he had on there is 18 oz plus 3 oz for DNZ mounts and still get 7 pounds 1 oz is what I was wondering about. I can see it in the shorter barreled 308 win, but the magnums barrel is a few inches longer and thus even more weight than the .308.

I know a crusty old elk hunter who didn't like the recoil of his 7mm so he sold it and bought a .243

I would just about guarantee he's more "man" than about 99% of the guys on this board, including myself.

There's a lot more to being tough than shooting a magnum rifle

HAHA...my hardest recoiling rifle isn't a magnum thats for sure. ;)

Did he put a brake on the .243?

I didn't weight all the components prior to putting it together, but you guys had me questioning myself:confused:... So, I pulled it out and threw it on the kitchen scale... This is with the sling on there(which weighs maybe two or three ounces), with empty magazine. 7.340LB= 7lb 5.4oz

The standard T3 Lites series had the .308 class at 6 pounds even, 30-06 class at 6 pounds 3oz, and Mags at 6 pounds 6 oz.

Not really that important, but for the record you might be confusing what "MT" means in Tikka speak. MT doesn't mean .308 class. MT designates 20" barrel models and I believe they are "muzzle threaded" for suppressors. Not even sure they imported them to the US? .308 Tikkas are identical to 30-06 Tikkas other than the bolt stop and chamber. So same weight.

I picked up a kimber Montana this year in 338 win mag. Talley lightweights, VX3i 2.5-8x36 and the barrel bobbed to 23" gives me 7lbs 2oz unloaded. I have been anti magnum my whole life and always use a 30-06 so I was fairly concerned about the recoil but it is surprisingly mild. I'm shooting 250 grain accubonds and a stout load of RE19 and the recoil hasn't bothered me one bit.

Obviously everyone handles recoil differently but I wouldn't be scared of a lightweight 7mm as long as the rifle fits you, has a good recoil pad and your scope has enough eye relief.
