I've worn knee pads for antelope hunting, 20 years ago (those were the volleyball or football type). For over 10 years, you won't see me on a mtn hunt, where rocks are as common as trees in the forest, without kneepads (the Arcteryx is the only model I've worn since 2001). I'm on my 3rd set. They are also great for riding horses (horses like to run people into rocks and trees) and when cooking, organizing around camp. Where they really have came in handy is when I've taken a header in slick rocks with 150 lb pack. Without them, I'd have been seriously gimped up or worse, on a couple of occasions. They might look kind of gay, but I won't leave home without a set of Arcteryx Knee Caps. Worth their weight in Gold.
