knives for moose

I have only done one moose so far but we used 2 knives. The guide had an Outdoor Edge replaceable blade knife and I had my Buck omni hunter 10 point. I couldn't get over how this Newfie guide broke down such a large animal with such a small knife. Definitely made me rethink my choices for cutlery!

The knives I bring do not change per hunt. I’ll bring a scalpel/replacement blade Havalon knife and a Anza custom lightweight study fixed blade. You can cut up anything with this lightweight knife combination. It hasn’t failed me yet!

I also have an ulu but never used it!

Yup my first newfie moose my guide had a 3 in pocket knife he kept trying to sharpen on his axe. My fixed blade knives dulled in like 5 min on their hair. That moose took all day to cut up. Learned my lesson went with Outdoor Edge replaceable blades and never looked back at dull knives again.

Outdoor edge knives worked perfect on our trip. We also had a Stanley hand saw... 14” I believe

This with the serrated blade. Nothing I've ever used takes a moose apart as well as this does.
