Well I’m gonna add to the growing list of KC Stove modifications.

I need some input though. I have a 10x10 Flexbow Deluxe and a 12x9 Cabin tent Deluxe model. I bought a Bear Paw Design stove jack to have the local Tent and Awning shop sew in the stove jack. I’m leaning towards the 12x9 tent since I have the enclosed accessory on it + plus I like the rectangle layout vs. square.

The stove is the Nu-Way 3500 (propane). However, I’m going back and forth if a wood burning stove is better.

Pros and cons I’ve been considering. Don’t have to haul propane. Have to get up in the night to refuel if using a wood stove.

Today I setup the 12x9 and looked it over for stove jack/stove placement. After reviewing similar mods I see most people either glued or sewed their stove jack on the side wall (most likely) to prevent water from coming in when not in use. However, I noted KC on their 12x12 Cabin stove jack model they have their stove jack in the ceiling which I myself prefer.

Since the small zippered access point (propane hose) is off set (left hand side) when entering the main door I’m thinking about installing the stove jack when the blue X-mark is on the attached picture. Which is also in the appropriate location of the 12x12 Cabin Stove Jack model.

I have a 10x14 flexbow and wood stove. It’s a hassle that I hardly bother with anymore and I’m thinking about getting a nu-way instead. I’m always wiped getting back after dark and never want to prep wood. Perhaps I suck at running a wood stove but I tend to struggle with it getting too hot, too smokey, or just don’t want to deal with it when it needs wood in the middle of the night.

Yeah as long as nu way will work at the altitude you need.
Idk if they have restrictions.

That’s a good point as well; wood prepping. Something I wouldn’t have to deal with. Where is your stove jack located at? Ceiling or wall?

All other things considered the furthest away from the door as you will lose less heat id think on popping in/out, also if you are hanging clothes they will be the most out of the way.
Id really consider setting up some cots etc if you have the time. Think about how you would like to use it.
I'm a sidewall hole guy, yes for potential leaks.

Most put it in the ceiling for wood stoves because most camp wood is not all that great and a straight up pipe keeps creosote to a min.

My jack is in the wall.

Sounds like you need one of the pellet stoves. They'll run all night.

The pellet stoves may be an option. I’ve seen people kick around the nu-way, and I’ve considered it but I ultimately went with wood.

If you use a buddy heater or a nuway you’re stuck carrying propane to your hunt site. Instead of lugging propane I take a handful of Idaho energy logs. When I get there I may hunt around, some sites may have wood left over from the last guys or wood laying around in the woods. I’ll gather up enough to get a couple fires started. I start the fire with the log in there, let it get going good and damp it almost all the way down for the night once it’s warm enough in the tent. Usually have sufficient coals left in the morning to get it going again while I’m getting dressed.

I realize you’re carrying something one way or another, propane or logs... I just like the option to use wood if I need to whereas with propane you’re stuck going back into town if you run out.

I took your suggestion sir. I have the tent setup now and I’m just playing around with stove, stove jack, and cot placement in the tent.

The attached pictures reflect the stove being setup immediately left of the door opening.

However, I’m not sure if I prefer the stove there as opposed to the far right corner. *Sepictures.

The first spot has a big screened window that can unzip and become another entry point. Granted if I’m running the stove (it’s be cold) therefore, I plan on having this side accessible to foot traffic.
