In the next week or so I'm purchasing either the Kuiu Pro 6000 or 7800. Which do you all recommend? Is it worth getting the larger pack for just a little extra money? Any and all opinions are appreciated. Thanks!

How long of trips are you planning on using it for? I have the 6000 and it’s more than enough for a week trip or possibly longer. Also I’ve found the bigger the bag the more gear you tend to take.

Probably 3-5 days would be typical. I have heard with the 7800, even though bigger, you can tighten the straps and get it smaller if there is extra space. This true?

You can tighten the straps down and it will compress some. Also remember you still have the load sling if you need more space.

You can tighten down the 7800 but it is a huge bag. Between the two, I got the bigger one. Can’t say that I make good use of the extra size though. More bag means more room to stuff shit in that you don’t really need and won’t be real happy having to carry. If you can manage the “what if”s when you pack, get the bigger bag.

I find myself constantly trying to tighten down my 7800 to much. Went to a Nomad 2 this season. Gives me options of packing heavy and ease of a day pack while up there. They have some videos showing it on website. I really like it better

Pro Lt 7000 pack is supposed to be released by month end. 4lb 9oz full kit compared to 5lb 13oz (6000) and 6lb 1oz (7800). Could be worth waiting for or at least following up with Kuiu.

A friend has a 7800 and it's giant. He crams all kinds of BS in there including a fullsized pillow, he's nuts the amount of weight and crap he carries. I have a 6000 and it doesn't get used much and only if the time out is a week plus. I get by on most pack hunts with smaller. On many hunts I'll take a break and run out to resupply if I can rather than carry a heavier load to start with. Doing that I can shower when I hit the truck and eat some real food before I head back in. It makes for a nice mental break and some strategy thinking time.

I have the 7800 and it's big. I'm not a pro backpack hunter, so I carry more than I need and like having the room for it. But, if you're an ounce counter, and super minimalist, you'll definitely like the 6000 better.

I bought the pro 7800 with the intension of doing a 10-12 day coastal hunt and being able to handle a pile of gear. I have managed to squeak 5 days out of a 4000ci ultra pack in the past but I saw it’s limitations with my kit in the event of hauling food. Idea was to buy a pack that was able to handle future sheep trips. I was told there wouldn’t be an update to the ultra line and they were just sticking to the pro series. Few months later I see teasers of a 7000ci pro lite. Bastards

I will say it compresses smaller but I’m a little bit of an Oz counter when it comes to going in deep.

What’s this talk I hear about Pro LT? Are they making a size smaller than the 7000? 5600-6400 is my sweet spot for packs and I don’t need all the zippers and pockets of the Pro packs.

So I called customer service this morning and they confirmed that the Pro LT packs are hitting the website 2nd week of August. They said that there will be a 3600, 5500, and 6000.

I run the ultra 4000 and the Pro 7800.

The 7800 pack is a monster. I use the ultra 4000 primarily and it is plenty for up to 7 days with some creature comforts. 7800 is a great expedition pack, it will pack down but the 6000 will make for a much easier managed pack IMO.
