I recently bought a Storm Star and used it last week for late season Oregon archery. The tent was great for me, easy to set up and the size was perfect for being alone. The question that came to me was “is this overkill?”

I debated between this and the Mtn Star before and went with this for the possibility of being in snow but now saving 2 pounds climbing a few thousand feet might be worth it. I’m debating selling and going with a Mountain Star.

Any thoughts on this? No threads that I’ve seen on this subject.

The Mountain Star is a pretty robust shelter, definitely a 3+ shelter. It will handle a good bit of wind and does pretty decently with moderate snow as well. If you're likely to get into a lot of snow or wind, the Storm Star makes more sense, if not the Mountain Star is a very worthy shelter.

Looks like the weight difference is a little closer to 2.5 lbs between the two, fairly significant.
