I was lucky enough to be drawn for a firearms bull elk tag this year. I decided to go with LMO to increase my chances of filling my tag in the 5 day season. I connected on a very respectable bull on day two. My Tikka T3 that was rebored by JES did the job quickly with the 200gr ttsx.

Congrats on the bull. I like coal country. What caliber did you have the Tikka rebored to?

Thank you. It was rebored from a .270 to a 35 Whelen. I love it. Shoots great with factory. I haven’t had a chance or need to reload for it yet.

Thank you! Definitely a once in a lifetime tag more than likely.

Thanks gentlemen. I would’ve never thought after only two years I would have lucked up to get a golden ticket. It was definitely a cool experience.

I’ve been buying preference points in other states so it was nice to kill my first elk in the same state I live.

That's amazing, Congrats! I've known people who have put in for 15-20 years and have not been drawn. I'm happy you were able to maximize the opportunity. Great job!

Congrats on that fine bull :)

Tell us about the shot. How far was it? What were the lighting conditions? I have seen several vids of folks hunting Elk in Kentucky and most shots seem relatively close.

Thank you. It was around 9am so it was light out. The shot was a whopping 160 yards. The 35 whelen did great with the 200gr ttsx.
