Last spotter - tripod mounting question

This should be my last question(s). Was trying to figure out how to get my spotter to be more balanced on the tripod. If I mount the plate the opposite direction of shown in pics, the foot of the spotter hangs off the plate. But when I mount it as is current, so the foot completely sits on the plate, I have to really push the spotter/plate far forward on the head (also as shown in pics) to get it balanced. I guess not really a big deal to not have it balanced. I feel more comfortable sliding it back a little and having it more centered in the head. Maybe I'm just overthinking this. New to this spotter stuff.

Why not use an even longer rail and put the scope wherever you need for balance and still have full contact with the head? Many call these balance rails. When looking down deep into a canyon will position the scope much differently than if looking up high on a mountain. With a long balance rail you can cover all situations.
