Are these leather waterproofing creams...

...interchangeable? Meaning, I know they are the same "type" of product and though the packaging is different are they the same under the hood? For example, they could even be made by the same company just put in a different can.

I have a pair of Crispi Hunter GTX and Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400 to treat and I'm curious to know if each product is safe for use on both boots.

Alot of the products are the same. As you suggested, made by one company and bottled for the boot manufacturer.

I don't know specifically about those two products, but generally leather is leather and I'd feel pretty safe to use either product on both boots.

I am a huge fan of Obenauf's products, particularly in the oil formulation (easy to neatly apply). However, one major concern I have with departing manufacturer's recommendations is the possibility of rand damage. Kenetrek, for example, states that "heavy oils" or "animal fats" in non-approved boot treatment compounds can delaminate the rand glue bond. I use Obenauf's on my older and less expensive boots. For me, anything in the $300 range would get precisely what the manufacturer recommends.

I use obenaufs heavy duty lp . It’s made with beeswax and natural oils. Never had an issue with it on my zamberlands or hanwags.

I have used both. They are not the same product. I’m sure either one is really fine to use on either brand with no problems, but kenetrek says you must use theirs for warranty. After using both I like the kenetrek wax better. FYI, kenetrek wax = Oregon trail Co wax with a kenetrek sticker on the can.

I have the Crispi Hunter GTX, and I use only the Crispi waterproofing creme on them. When I had the Kenetrek Mountain Extremes, I only used the Kenetrek wax on them. I personally feel that whatever the bootmaker sells is going to be safe to use on their boots. You don't want something in the boot crème (or wax) to act negatively with the compounds used to seal the rand on the boots.
Again, me personally, I paid almost $500 for each of the pair of boots (as you probably did), why would I want to save 2 or 3 dollars on boot treatment and not get what is recommended by the boot maker? I am sure Obenaufs and other brands will work, and they are great products, but I found the proprietary brand of treatments kept my boots looking new, and I doubt that using anything else would have made them look or perform better.
