Lil-Rokslider
I am currently running a Ruger American Compact in 7mm-08 and for a while thought the gun was great. I soon realized after practicing cycling the bolt with the gun shouldered it was not going to work for me. Once the firing pin is discharged cycling the bolt becomes very sticky and requires too much effort. With that being said I am on the hunt for a replacement rifle. I was considering building one but I was looking at 3k plus for what I wanted to do.
I recently discovered that Sportmans Warehouse offers the Tikka Superlight in LH in like 3 calibers. 7mm rem mag, 300 win mag, and 6.5 creedmoor. The claimed weight of 5.9 lbs. I would like to go back to my 7mm-08 but I suppose creedmoor will do the trick. 90 percent of my hunting is Northeast whitetail and black bear.
I have done quite a bit of research and before I "pull the trigger" am I missing any contenders? 6lb and under somewhere near the price range of the TIkka in LH?
On a side note since the action length in the Tikka is the same for the 6.5 and rem mag should I consider the 7mm? Can I replicate the kick and ballistics of the 6.5 for the hunting I want to do and then step it up for elk or other big game if I ever took a trip? I am going to be putting the SWFA ulstralight scope on whatever I buy and likely will be very svelte. I don't want to deal with the full snort of the 7mm rem mag in such a light rifle unless I really need to.
Thanks!
