With all these prefits hitting the market for Tikka, and with gunsmiths still hell bent on charging high dollar to thread on a barrel... its getting to be an easier decision to purchase the following:

1) Barrel Vise
2) Outside Action Wrench
3) Inside Action Wrench
4) Torque Wrench
5) Go/NoGo Gauges

With the above tools, you can thread on your own Tikka prefit without paying anyone else to do it.

The ideal scenario would be to find a group of Tikka shooters (like those on this thread) and share some of the above tools, as I dont imagine the average shooter is going to get much use out of go gauges, etc.

For a standard chamber, sure. Want something specific, a smith will still be necessary.

Interesting thread and some awesome builds. Makes me seriously consider going down this route on the next rifle. What are the issues/things you guys are trying to "fix" over the factory t3x??
Flimsy factory stock??
Factory barrel that is too light and poor twist rates??

What else? What are your main objectives in a tikka build??

I think the stock is serviceable, I do appreciate the stiffer mcmillan I moved into add into that it’s pillar bedded, free floated and more ergonomic, it’s a win, and shrunk my groups quite a bit, especially shooting different positions.

Some of the stock barrel twists are fine, but is a consideration. The 10 twist 243 I have is being rebarreled due to twist, had it been faster I would have experimented with heavier bullets. The barrel contour is fine for me, for a hunting rifle I’m carrying around.

I replaced the plastic bits on all mine. Bottom metal and magazine. Couldn’t be happier with that decision but probably wasn’t completely necessary.

I’d be completely happy with a t3 lite in a caliber I want, with a new stock, cerakote and replaced plastic bits with metal for a long, long time.

You guys going the Tikka prefit route - how are you removing the factory barrels? What tools? DIY? I only ask because I have heard that they can be a real bear to pull - specifically the Tikkas.

Mine came off easy, I used a Davidson vice on a truck hitch mount I built and a wheeler action wrench. One good tug and it spun right off.

Some really nice rifles here. Looking at doing a semi custom build for a long time. I have decided now is the time. Looking at donor rifles it seems hard to beat the T3x's locked and loaded has right now for cheap (in my opinion).

Again some great rifles here

Im picking one up tomorrow. I've been searching rokslide for the best mods to do to them. Looking to build a light hunting rifle. Don't have to be ultra super light but nice light set up. Not 100% sold on the carbon barrels but they do look nice. I'm guessing they shoot better than the stock barrel (which I here do really good)

Target is three shots fired at a 100 yds this last Monday.
Berger 215. Reloader 26.
Going to play with that combo some more.

Did you get that from a guy in Arkansas? Looks like previous gun...

Finally assembled.

Tikka T3 Action - donor action came cerekoted in gunmetal.
Proof Sendero Prefit. 6.5 PRC @ 24"
Yo Dave Trigger Spring - Trigger at ~1.9 lbs
Hells Canyon Magazine
Mountain Tactical Long Action Bolt Stop
Bolt fluted by LRI
Mesa Precision Stock
Griffin Armament Taper Mount Paladin 2Muzzle Brake
Zeiss V4 4-16 on Tally Mediums (will probably switch to low)

Caught a weather window to go put some factory ammo down the tube. Both the 147 gr and 143 gr Hornady ammo shoot under .5 moa. Can't wait for some warmer weather to see what this rifle can do. I am really surprised how easy it is to put a rifle like this together. I am not a gunsmith by any means, but the only help I had was removing the barrel and screwing on a new one and they checked headspace.

Great set up. Looking at very similar. Do you have a weight on that?
