Looking into buying a lever action.... only problem. I don’t know what caliber I should get, or manufacture. Anyone got a lever action and anyone got any advice?

30-30 or 35 Remington. Winchester model 94 is the iconic lever gun, but the Marlin design is hands down more solid and easy to break down,

I’ll have to look into it! I’m trying to “keep it reasonable” to make the wife feel a little better about it hah

I’ve got a Marlin 45-70 I’m quite fond of. I like it as a close range hunting rifle that packs a big punch with lots of penetration if need be. Up to elk or bear within 100 yards (for me, with irons). To me, that makes the most sense for a lever action.
The marlins are solid rifles at a great price. The Henrys are very nice as well. Winchester’s are good if you can find a solid one used. 45-70 is my favorite rifle caliber, but 30-30 is good too if you don’t need as much bullet. The pistol caliber carbines are very useful too, take your pick of caliber.
I’ve also found that most factory lever action iron sights are mediocre at best, I recommend a Skinner Sights rear aperture as an upgrade.

If I was getting one it would be a marlin 45-70. I have an ancient winchester 94 in .32 special which is a necked up 30-30.
45-70s just have so much history, such a cool round that can still be useful today when everyone else is shooting two thousand yard super mags.

.44mag marlin - that's my bang bang and it'll blow off your shoulder and drop a bear

I'm fond of the handgun calibers. Can nearly buy 50 rounds for the cost of 20 rifle. Easier for plinking. I feel comfortable to 125-150 on deer with 357 and 44, especially when you get lots of practice with the gun.

Straight wall pistol pretty easy to reload too.

I have a soft spot for old levers....a 1930 94 in 30WCF, a 50's Winchester 64 in 32 win. special, a 50's Savage 99 in 300 Savage, and a 1972 Marlin 1895 in 45-70. A buddy has an early Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. All of those (and many more) are great rifles that I could heartily recommend!

I love all the answers, but I’m trying to find a versitile gun. I feel like a 30-06+ limits it to only large game. I sorta like the .357, still light enough for small game and i can still use it to hunt deer... plus the rounds are 1.25$ a shot haha

I have two I love.

Winchester model 94 in 32 spl. Good deer cartridge. If I were plinking I would go this model in 30-30, lots of cheap ammo and capable of deer Hunting. I believe they are well under 6 lbs so great carry.

Also have browning blr in 358 Winchester. I very much appreciate how larger Bore/calibers kill. You here it a lot how accurate the blr is, mine is no exception. This caliber and the more powerful calibers the blr platform has options for make less a plinking to me.45943138-6817-4AC3-B363-50640FA43B1D.jpeg

Two Winchester pre64 30-30s, Marlin 44mag, Browning 357, Winchester 218 Bee, Winchester 22mag, Ithaca 22lr.

Yeah, I like lever guns. All fun.

What one do you use the most?
