I'm looking for a tripod that isn't that heavy, have a vanguard tracker that is nice, but heavy. Looking for something to take on a raft and maybe to AK or somewhere where glassing will be a chunk of time.
I have a buddy that brought his slik pro cf 634 and slik pro cf 624 along to spot antelope a few days ago.
I loved the taller of the two as I could just kneal a little and get on the angled spotter.
Here's the 634 in a link
  • Max Height - 65 in
  • Min Height - 7.4 in
  • Max Load - 15.4 lbs
  • Weight - 3.4 lbs

Called our buddies at cameraland and they recommend the promaster 525 ck. It comes with a head, which increases the max height below, I already have a Benro S2 head.
KIT SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Maximum Working Height: 70 3/8" / 178.8 cm
  • Maximum Height with Column Down: 54 1/4" / 137.8 cm
  • Minimum Working Height: 15 1/8" / 38.4 cm *Minimum working height can be improved to 6 1/4" / 15.88 cm by adding a 3538 XC-M 525 Ground Level Adapter (sold separately)
  • Folded Length: 15" / 38.1 cm
  • Maximum Load: 17 lbs 10 oz / 8 kg
  • Weight: 2 lbs 13 5/16 oz / 1.29 kg
  • Cold Weather Performance: -4° F / -20° C
  • 5-Section Carbon Fiber Legs
* Kit specifications include tripod with head attached
  • BALL HEAD SPECIFICATIONS
  • Height: 3 1/4" / 8.3 cm
  • Base Diameter: 1 13/16" / 4.6 cm
  • Weight: 8 5/8 oz / 245 grams

TRIPOD LEG SPECIFICATIONS
  • Maximum Working Height: 67 1/8" / 170.5 cm
  • Maximum Height with Column Down: 51" / 129.5 cm
  • Minimum Working Height: 11 7/8" / 30.1 cm
  • Leg Angles: 20° / 50° / 80° / 180°
  • Platform Diameter: 1 9/16" / 4 cm
  • Folded Length: 15" / 38.1 cm
  • Weight: 2 lbs 4 11/16 oz / 1.04 kg
Cost is similar on both, what say those that have used one or the other or both.

Last question is I want to be able to quickly interchange from spotter to rifle yoke, is there anyone besides outdoorsman that does this. I have a set of shooting sticks and would like to combine these into one item, tripod and shooting sticks.

Thanks and hope all had a very Merry Christmas.

Just really quick, the slik is going to give you a more stable platform than the ProMaster. However the ProMaster does obviously have more features. I will also say that we do have the slik tripod and stock and I am here shipping stuff out as fast as I can.

The Slik is sturdier, butrnot as tall and is heavier and bigger to carry around when at its smallest length.
Through the end of the year the Promaster is 20% off for members and the Slik is 10% off and then if you need a head all Promaster, Sirui and Benroe heads are 20% off.

I am here today until 6:00

Thanks
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
