Hi,

I have an older tent where the waterproofing on the rain fly has started to deteriorate and is getting sticky.

Anyone have a brand of waterproofing sealant that works really well for them?

Thanks for any suggestions!

My local Dollar Store has the Rust-Oleum brand Never Wet spray kits. I would look to see if yours does too. But be aware, it may add a slight milky white color to your tent. But for a dollar 🤷‍♂️

I've used Thompsons water seal on an older tent I use for canoe camping. Spray it on then brush it in. As above, it discolors it a bit, but works great.

Is your tent made of canvas or nylon? Water sealant coatings are fine for nylon tents but if your tent is a canvas tent you never want to apply a coating. It will render it unable to breathe which is one of the biggest advantages of a canvas tent. We recommend Nikwax for use on our canvas tents. It does the job without clogging the pores, the micro spaces between the fibers which keeps water out but also lets moist air from inside the tent, out.
