Why would you secure your pistol to the side of your pack? When I carry a pistol it is for self defense or to shoot birds so I want it readily accessible, which means on my hip or chest.

These are the two most popular chest holster I see in Alaska and hear people talking about on the internet. I have never used either of them but have good friends that use both and swear by them.

Another option is making your own holster to your specs with kydex, lots of good tutorials online on how to do it and where to get the parts for them. I plan on going this route for my daughters and their Ruger MKII's when I get home. I have been putting the parts and pieces together while I have been away and they will make a good project for the three of us to do together.

For 11 years now I have drawn my sidearm from my side prob well over 5000 times, so it's natural and fast for me. It would be foreign and slower for me to have a holster elsewhere.

Those diamond d leather holsters look like what I may be looking for. They have one that can be secured by a strap which I could secure to the side of my pack hip belt.

So I guess you want to attach the holster to your packs waist/hip belt and not to the side of your pack itself?

I'd second the Hill People Gear Kit Bag. Perfect for flyfishing, hiking and backpacking.
If you want an option for your pack belt, look into The Wilderness Safepacker. Will fit any pack belt and can be used daily in many different ways.
