Lower Magnification Scope

Been reading through posts and at other places. I am looking to put a scope on a 30-06. Mainly hunted in WI, thick timber some open areas. I would take this rifle out West if it is still the only one that I have. What is a good scope for lower power in dark timber but could also work for open area shooting. 400 yds max, maybe 600 if a follow up is necessary. Would like an illuminated cross hair also. Open to most budget wise.
