Have a Matthews V3 31 set at 70 lbs. I believe my draw length is 27.5 and my arrow length is 28. I’m trying to figure out what spine I should get on Easton Axis Arrows. With everything I have looked at on the chart it shows I could be shooting up to 260 spine.

I have the same specs on my vxr. I shoot a 300 spine with 300 grains upfront as well as a 340 spine with 250 upfront.

You’ll need to tune an arrow to your setup to achieve the best results.

i had axis 340s tune with the standard hit insert 3 fletch/wrap. v3 31 28/70 i think they were cut to 28. not sure where you are getting 260. you can get away with a littel weaker with the v3s the engineer said so in an eastmans interview

As per Easton spine chart. Brace height less than 6.5 inches add 5 pounds. Bow over 340 ibo add 5 pounds. So his 70# draw would plug in as 80#. So 80# at 28 inch shaft with 100gr head is 300, 280,260,250.

Edit: factory HIT insert with 100gn point.

Thanks guys. I have been looking at the spine chart and scratching my head. Guess I have never had a bow that had to add poundage on the chart. My brace height has been 6.5 or greater and IBO less than 340. Upgrading from an old bow. Thought it would be easier.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I plan on shooting 100 grain tips. I guess my question is I have 340s Easton Axis but why worry is judging by the Easton Chart that I will be under spines shooting 340. What do you all think?

As you can see above there are two of us that are shooting Axis 340's right around your same specs and they tune up fine.

I guess my worry is I don’t want to hurt my bow shooting to high of a spine

You're not going to hurt the bow. 5 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight is the minimum most manufacturers recommend to avoid bow damage. Your 340 spine Axis arrows weigh either 8.3 gpi (4mm version) or 9.5 gpi (5mm). At 28" with a 100 gr head and fairly light vane/nock setup (30-ish gr combined), you're already over 350 gr without even counting the insert.

I've shot 300 spine 4mm axis match with 145gr and 170gr up front from my v3 27 @ 27" and 68 pounds. Flew just fine.

I'm shooting a V3X 29 with 28 mods at 70 lbs. I can get both a 5mm Axis 340 or 300 to shoot great running standard HIT inserts and 100 or 125 grains upfront - arrow lengths range from 27.5 - 28.25 depending on spine.
