Montana HDs 500 & 501 Safety Network

I'm hoping to put together a contact list for those of us who will be hunting HDs 500 or 501 during the opener in 2019. If interested, shoot me a PM with your name (or code name if you don't want your name linked to a specific HD on the list), email address, and chosen HD. In August I'll reach out to everyone and collect satellite messaging contact info, compile a list for each HD, and then redistribute that info to everyone.

My hope is that this sort of network will provide an additional layer of protection and peace of mind, especially for those getting after it solo. It would sure be nice to have a list of folks you can contact that may only be a few hours away in the event of an injury, etc.

Some of you may remember I initiated something like this a few years ago. Lots of guys showed interest, but I dropped the ball and failed to actually reach out, get info, and compile a list. I'm not planning to let that happen again so please let me know if you're interested...

I've only got info for one other guy so far. Obviously that's way too few for this network to have any sort of effectiveness. PM me your name, email, and HD (500 or 501) if you'd like to be included. I'll probably just dissolve this idea if I don't have at least 4-5 guys per unit by mid August.

That's a bummer on the shattered foot! Hunting related injury?

Nice pics - I especially like the first one. Nothing like sitting behind glass as the mountain wakes up, wondering what you might see...

Not hunting related but crappy none the less.

Out of those three sheep one was a ram but pretty young and not even close to legal.

We saw a group of about a dozen or so ewes the next day. We moved from that spot after almost 4 days of hunting it and the next afternoon a guy killed a legal ram just below where those sheep were that he watched come down through a saddle. That was his second sheep in that unit.

I made it to 10,700' - the ridge in the two middle pictures tops out at roughly 12k.

Man that's tough to accept. It's amazing how much of wilderness hunting boils down to being in the right place at the right time.
