I’m heading back to Montana for elk, my buddy said sound for has pretty good black bear densities. I may buy an OTC tag if I’m lucky enough to fill my elk tag. Having never been bear hunting out west before I just want to verify some of my presumptions and hunting bears in September in zone four.
If I read correctly, I will need to wear hunter orange? This is an archery or rifle hunt? Then the tag in procedure ….. it requires me to call within 48 hours and provide a sample of a tooth and hide? that’s one thing I’ve never had to do.
I’ve already taken the bear Id test, so aside from heading into town and buying a tag, I should be good to go? I’ll plan on calling from a tree saddle since I’m solo, I don’t want to have a close encounter at ground level. Or sit on the elk gut pile….
