Moose hunting in Russia

Hi friends. I like to hunt elk in Russia with dogs and especially on the roar. How do you usually hunt for moose?

not sure what you are asking exactly but pull up some youtube of DIY Alaska and you'll see lots of calling and glassing. I love hunting with dogs, though maybe not for ungulates, but I'm interested in some stories about it.. Sounds fascinating.

I am not aware of anyone who uses dogs here but calling during what we call the rut and glassing semi-open areas are the main methods. Nice moose.

Calling and spot and stalk dominate the typical methods for hunting moose around here although hunting food sources are also used successfully.

I wish we could at least use dogs for recovery of big game here legally. I can't deny that they sure improve recovery.

I love watching dogs work. I used to use dogs for hunting wild boar hogs...an invasive species in our country [USA]. We can use dogs for bird hunting here in all states.

I think we can run dogs for rabbits in most states.
We used to be able to use dogs on Black bears in the western states....but the anti hunting groups have initiated laws against that. There are still a few states with fall seasons but the spring seasons are slowly getting eliminated with dogs for bears.

Some southern states a hunter can use dogs for Deer...but to my knowledge we cannot use dogs for elk or moose in the US or Canada.

Do you need to buy a hunting license? Can you hunt Moose and Grizzly Bear every year?

For example, here the moose species are limited. We have a lottery system for them in the 5 or 6 Rocky Mountain states that have them. It can take 20 years or more to draw a Moose permit.

We have game wardens that are prevalent in each state to enforce these laws.

Yes, in Russia, you can hunt elk and bear every year. Hunting begins in the fall and until winter. We have hunting grounds that are leased, where they sell licenses. There are public lands, where they announce a competition for licenses. It is cheap, but this competition is unfair and licenses rarely go to the ordinary hunter. There are also wardens who check the hunt.

Very cool. I've been in the Caucasus, and the folks there were great. But that is a long way from where you are. Siberia is on my list. I'd like to visit in the summer and in the fall for hunting. Just to participate, I don't have to shoot a thing.

What rifle are you using? I think Dragunov, then I think Saiga, but can't quite place it.
