What made a cache of this spike? I assume it was a lion but would like to hear your thoughts. It was a little spooky when we stumbled on this kill.

I’m going to say bear. In my experiences lions don’t put as much effort into covering up kills. Bears always do.

A cat will drag a carcas to where it can be covered with brush, so cat is a good call here. Also possible a poacher looking for something bigger winged it, and then predators moved in. Was throat ripped out? Just hind quarters?
