Thanks for the story. Hopefully you get another crack at him with the rifle or the bow.

I heard you discussing changing up meals so I thought I'd add what we have gone to for truck camping. We cook and freeze evening meals that go over pasta or instant potatoes. Chicken Al a King, Stroganoff, Spaghetti, stuff like that. We freeze them in quart vacuum sealed bags that are heavy duty enough to boil. Each morning we set the evening's meal out of the cooler in a safe spot to thaw. That evening we run a Coleman camp stove with 2 burners and boil water in pots on both burners. The one pot of water makes our pasta or potatoes, the other warms our vacuum sealed meal and then is dish water for after. It's a pretty simple and fast process that lets us eat better than if we did all freeze dried. The only real downside is washing a pan and 2 plates each night, plus needing more water.

Texas toast is easy to do on the burners also and adds some dry matter intake to our meals. Important to add to a ration for cattle or people!
