I did it today a day late after my first backpacking trip of the year this weekend. It was 108 and hotter then that running on the asphalt. 56 minutes and change with a vest. The last mile in the heat hurt my time bad. Did 5 pushups, 5 pull-ups, 5 pushups, 15 squats for 20 rounds and was feeling great about my time till I walked part of my last mile in the heat hah

First time doing it for me, 37:05 with no vest. Hoping I can break 55:00 with a 20lb vest next year

Reading Jack Carr's True Believer last night, I noticed The Murph was a bit more than the crossfit version we refer to commonly. The character in the book, with armor, does:

100 Burpees
100 yard buddy drags (4X)
2 mile run
100 pull-ups
200 push-ups
300 air squats
2 mile run.

Is this the real Murph?
Did I do another lazy Murph? :)

Also, everyone should read Jack Carr's The Terminal List. It was written for freedom loving roksliders.

Remember that Jack Carr writes fiction. He is a legit badass but the books are fiction.

1st timer the 2nd mile killed Me 53:16 on Memorial Day. No vest but dang it was worth it. Crossfit the next 4 days was brutal.

Damn I need to pick it up. You doing all the exercises straight thru before moving on or doing some sort of superset and working thru all 3 at once?

After my first run I do ten sets of:
10 pullups
20 pushups
30 squats

I feel that this is the most manageable approach for me to use to get reps in and not gas myself.

I think most people do 20 sets of 5 / 10 / 15

I've been doing 15 of 5/10/20 then 5 of 5/10 which gets the air squats out of the way and a brief leg rest before the 2nd mile. I hurt the most on the 2nd mile.

Justin's 10/20/30 is interesting. I'll have to give it a try next time, that is a blazing fast time he got.

I generally do mine straight thru. In the past I have done 10 sets of 10/20/30 before. Breaking them up def helps you from getting gassed. But yea, that 2nd mile is brutal to start, especially when you come right off of 300 squats. By the end of the mile, my legs start feeling much better tho.

Ill try breaking up the sets and see how I do. Under 30 min is still amazing

Memorial Day 2022

Thanks, once again, to all those that have made the ultimate sacrifice!

Here’s my time from this morning. No vest, 1mi run, 20 rep Cindy, 1mi run

Thanks. Not bad for an old guy! My wife just finished her 1st one ever. Right at an hour! Super proud of her. She used to marathon and running is really hard for her bc of 20 years of marathon punishment.

I’m 48 and I’ve been doing CrossFit for 5 years now. I had a heart stent put in late April 2021 (over 95% blockage in the LAD/“Widow maker” artery), so I missed doing Murph last year. It’s been a long road of recovery and I’ve been fighting my way back all year. I was in about the best shape of my adult life when this happened. I’m not back to where I was yet, but I’m still improving and regaining skills and endurance I lost.

In 2020 I was at 1:06 and change RX. This year I went body weight and was hoping for under 50 minutes but didn’t really have any expectations. Things started out great and I was pacing at sub 40 min and feeling great. Then, around the 7-8 round of Cindy I stood up from a set of push-ups and was REALLY dizzy and lightheaded. I’m in Houston and it was HOT! At 8am Heat index of 89° with 83% humidity, And I was trapped in a dead air space where the fans don’t really reach. Around the 12th round I started getting worried. All thoughts of a PR were completely out the window. This had turned into a survival event. Today has to have been the closest I’ve ever come to heat stroke. I finally shuffled across the finish at 1:03:21. My God I’m so glad that’s over!
