Several weeks back our Redbone/probably Beagle mix stopped eating, was drinking large amounts of water and frequently urinating and a little lethargic. Made an appointment with the vet as we were thinking diabetes. He then had an accident in the house and we knew we couldn't wait for the appointment and took him to the Urgicare. Whole series of tests and it wasn't diabetes but wished it was.

His liver enzymes were extremely high. Treated with under the kin bolus of IV fluid with meds and sent home with 6 different meds as he was being treated for a broad spectrum of things. Thankfully all of the tests came back negative, but what happened????? We combed the yard and have it figured out that he ate some mushrooms that were growing in the yard that we hadn't seen.

He is fine now with the one enzyme that is specific to the liver still a high normal which indicates some damage. So he will be on Denamarin Advanced for life.

It took him about two weeks to get back to his normal high activity level and eating regularly. Just be careful that if you think its one thing, it could be something else. Odd thing is, we think he knows he was really sick because now when he sits with us he really cozies up as if he realizes the great care that was taken care of him.
