Made a quick trip out to eastern Montana last weekend. The hunting was tough, but I did manage to glass up this very unique mule deer buck. It’s late November & this guy was still in velvet! This buck had a penis but no testes. Apparently bucks like this are called “cactus” bucks? They are born with a birth defect where the testes never descend & stay up in the abdomen. They never shed their velvet or their antlers. The do not rut or breed like a normal buck. Very strange deer. I don’t think I will ever come across a buck like this again. Any of you guys ever seen this before?

Well I would consider that a trophy. Heard of those but never seen one. Great job on a late season buck!

Took some video of this buck in Eastern Montana when I was hunting there a couple weeks ago.

From what Iv heard and read,,, more often they lose or injure their nuts,,, I have a ton of “stag” or “cactus” bucks on camera in areas with a lot of barb wire fences... seems their main frame stays pretty similar to whatever it is when they are injured and they stop dropping/ stay Velvet and just grow weird cheaters and bumps from that point on best I can tell from the dozen or so Iv seen from year to year... here’s one I followed on cam a few years.. called him “Clide” like the horses cuz of his absolutely giant body

Congrats, I love those unique freak bucks! I have a whitetail on my property in Indiana that has always stayed in velvet! Mother Nature works in mysterious ways!

The buck on the right was like you described. Mid November in NM. Congrats on your buck!
