I have a 21" covert hunter riser that started with hex 7.5 limbs and now has a pair of hex 8s. Shot it for several years and killed my first elk (cow) with it. I've moved away from it, but that's just based on personal preferences (grip, draw cycle, and I've moved to ILF so I can tune the bow to my shooting style vs changing to suit what the bow likes). The craftsmanship from the Sids at Border is top notch and in a lot of ways they are continually pushing the leading edge of limb design.

Your riser has all the bells and whistles. I've thought about sending mine in to get the adjustable rest and stab bushing, but may just sell it off and have them make a new one from scratch and match a grip that fits me better.

good stuff Tartan, Love hearing others experience. Im most excited about the XL Limbs this is a 66 inch bow that basically has a layout of a 60 inch bow which is really cool for a longdraw like myself. Im doing the exact opposite if you moving from ILF into this. I shoot a Tradetech Titan 3 with Dryad Epic limbs and absolutely love that bow. I will never sell that setup but the Border Covert Hunter has been on my list for a long time. Cannot wait to throw some arrows with it. I have been watching Joe Paranee channel Videos for a few days so I know what you mean about tuning arrows to bow and visa versa.

They are serious works of art. Make sure you stay in the recommended guidelines for brace height (much lower than most bows), String material (they recommend FF+, but D97 and 8125 should be ok if I remember), and arrow weight.

The hex limbs store a lot more energy than a conventional limb design, I don't believe that going by the standard 8-10gpp makes a lot of sense. My 50lb @31 hex8s shot the same arrow set up i had on a 64#@31" conventional recurve with a slightly longer point on.

The two biggest reasons I moved away from it are really results of me changing ("improving") my form over the years, and even then it's all personal preference. Not so much tuning arrows to the bow, but having to change how I shot it is why I eventually moved away.

I had a hard time changing to a rotational draw with how much weight they load up front. And I've found I prefer a much lower wrist grip. My CH had a border "mediuim" grip on it, which is pretty high and I have a hard time keeping my front shoulder down. Oddly, my draw length has increased .75" since going to a lower grip b/c I got rid of the high front shoulder.

They usually tiller these for grip pressure to be mostly in the throat of the grip. If you like to heel the bow you may feel the limbs open up out of sync on the draw cycle. I didn't have a problem with the 7.5s, but my 8s did this and I couldn't fix it. Bow still shot great, just had a little wobble right before anchor.

I don't want it to sound like I'm poopooing on it. They are just their own beast that requires a little different thinking compared to some others. I'm sure you're gonna love it.

all great feedback and many of the points you make Joe had in his video on the Border CH. Thank you as I will have to keep these things in mind.

Turn to 14:50 of this Joe video. He talks about tuning the Border Covert. Curious if others that have shot the bow agree with this?

Tarten you said some of this already in your post above about Brace Height and Arrow Spine. Can I pick your brain on what arrows you found work good with the Covert? Bow arrives on Tuesday =)

Honestly, I found Joe's results line up exactly with mine. Us long draw guys are already outside the normal recommendations for tuning though.

My CH was a 21" riser with Xl Limbs. The hex 7.5 were 52@31 and the 8s were 50@31. They almost tuned identically.

I ran a 6.75" braceheight. 3/4" nock height or so. Shot both off the shelf and off a modified bear weatherrest (cut if off above the rest to keep center shot). Just used soft side velcro for the shelf and side plate.

It's been a while, but I ran both full length 300 spine x-impacts and 350 spine day six arrows with 300-350 up front.

I'll be honest, this thread as got me thinking of having Sid build me an ILF CH riser with a custom grip...
