My take on the SO Big Sibling (sibley style tent stove)

Well, apparently I like to tinker with stoves....so...I"ve been researching the old Seek Outside Siblings and after seeing some feedback and thoughts from @RockChucker30 I decided to make one with the materials I have on hand. BUT, the one thing I didn love about them was the floorless design. It could be great sometimes, but also has potentially for a mess. So I adapted the design to work with a floor. I"m looking at this for use in either my BT-2 or Supertarp. Thinking the round footprint might work well in the supertap.

I need to make a little larger "ring" for the springs to tension off of, as they are just a bit too tight and are adding to much tension. IF I cant get it right, as annoying as it is sometimes, I might go the Kifaru SS wire route...we'll see, they suck when its cold.

Damper is see outside 2.5". Pipe shown in picture is a stainless 4' kifaru 3.5" diameter, with will probably be cut down narrower. Everything except the damper is SS. I might put 3 weld nuts on the bottom so I can put 3 4" carriage bolts on as feet to keep it off the ground as well.

Haven't decided on the door yet, but it will not be on the seam side like the Big Sibling was, and wont go all the way to the bottom. Probably a round door with some holes below it, and 3 vertically in a row above it like the old TiGoat doors.

Drawback on this design is lack of cook top. But, I will probably fashion a cross that can be put across the flue hole when it is not in the tent and then it could be used as a twig stove where fires were prohibited. Honestly, if I cant cook over a fire I"m generally carrying a small stove anyway...

Let me know what you guys think. Any feed back would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Interesting cone shaped design there. Would like to see that in action!

Ive used the tigoat cylinder stove for roughly 5 years now. I cant say I was a fan of their door design at all, which led to me building my own door.

The design I did like and modeled mine after is the lite outdoors cylinder stove. Attached are the pics from my build. If I had to do it over, my only changes would be a single hinge, and thicker titanium. It works just fine as it is though.

The larger door is great for larger wood. I use a 12” body in my BT2, and a 20” body in my 6-man tipi. Both have a 3” stove pipe.

Hey….that looks awesome. I’ve been rolling an idea like this around in my head for a couple years now, just haven’t moved on the idea yet. Getting inspired by your project. Really cool. Subscribed for info on how it performs. Thank you. -Rufus

Thanks, yes a larger door is definitely ideal, I completely agree, but when the diameter of the stove like this is only 10" across(at the bottom) I"m not planning on putting anything more than probably 8 inches in lentch in and not too big diamerter wise. I like what you did with the door!

I"ve been real happy with a large round hole in my WiFi copy I made. Its easy enough to fill, and allows for good venting.

Thanks! it was somewhat easy. I used an online truncated cone calculator to create a pattern and then just added some for overlap and a "z" style joint. The bottom is a 10" electric range burner cover I bougth at the thrift store for $0.99. The cone is .007 I think...cant find my gauge, my 7 year old was apperently playing with it at one point! Finding shim stock wide enough wat the hardest part, I found piece on ebay.

here are some more pics.
