Sorry for the late update. Buddy got a buck just before dark and we finally made it out.

Like I mentioned yesterday I got a late start this morning. I hiked out and met my buddy who was already out there. He had a nice 4 point give him the slip first thing this morning. It was warm and windy today. Deer movement was extremely slow all day. Finally towards dark we started seeing some deer. I spotted some does on this flat about 650 yards away. Watched them and finally a buck pushed another doe out of a draw. It was chasing her pretty hard back and forth across a flat. We dropped down and climbed a clay butte. The buck pushed the doe across the flat, through another draw, and almost to the next draw before we could get a shot. At the shot the buck ran behind some brush at the head of the draw. I saw the doe come out the bottom but never saw the buck. We hiked down to where it was at the shot and jumped it out of its bed. It was heading into the main draw so we hustled to the edge and it walked out right below us and down he went.

We took some quick pics since it was right before dark and cut him up then packed out to the truck. My buddy isn't in the best of shape and neither am I so it was a slow haul to the truck. He is a whitetail hunter so it was a good experience for him getting to chase mule deer.

Here is a pic of the the type of terrain we were hunting today.

Congratulations that's some awesome country I'd like to hunt it someday. Can't wait to see what you'll turn up today

Thanks. So far today honestly sucks haha. Wind is gusting around 25. I got sweaty on my hike in so the wind is making me pretty cold. Seen 30-40 deer so far. Half a dozen bucks. One looked pretty good but I only saw it for a split second before it followed a doe around a mud butte about 1.5 miles from me.

The first photo is the top of the plateau I’m glassing from today. ND has a bunch of these that just rise up out of the prairie. Some are pretty flat like this on top others not quite.

This little guy didn't want to move.

I dropped off the plateau and walked a finger ridge down trying to bust something out of the thick cedars. Didn't happen. I had a little buck walking the bottom of the draw about 75 yards in front of me. I grunted at it and it grunted back which was pretty cool. I was about halfway down and found this little shed.

Over all I saw 60-70 deer. 3 coyotes. 1 mature buck for sure. Its a real heavy crab claw buck. Really white face with a black brow. A friend's dad has the same tag and isn't super mobile. So I'm hoping he can get on it in the morning since its in a section with roads only 1 mile apart on the north and south end.

Quality seems down this year. I haven't seen a next level buck yet and I have covered a lot of country on foot and then extended even further out with good glass. There are a ton of people out and about which I know doesn't help. Plus with days like today with wind up to 25 mph that doesn't help either.

It’s a nice cold snowy morning. Lots of deer out. To many actually. I keep running into deer and I’m just trying to get to a canyon to glass. One mature buck lots of 2-3 year old bucks.

I'm not the smartest guy around.....but.......I think that's a pretty good problem to have.

Keep at it!

Only problem is I have to snake my way through that area with the way the terrain and public/private is. I don’t have a lot of room to walk around the deer. And if I bump a few deer a lot of times it’s like dominos and they just keep spooking deer after deer in the next draw or canyon.

I ended up putting on 10-12 miles today. I saw a lot of deer. 100+. Probably 7-8 of what I call a Montana 4x4. Only mature buck was the one I saw this morning.

I did let a coyote get away which irritates me. I saw a flash of movement to start with and thought it was a rabbit. Finally saw the coyote as it was making its way up the other side of the draw and over the top.

Any updates dirty?

Sorry for missing yesterday. I fell asleep early.

Yesterday I went out with nodakian. We hiked into another spot I hadn't been yet. I took this sunrise pic,

then right after we ran into a herd of elk. Deer wise it was a little slow. Best buck we saw was the buck with the 4"-5" eye guards. It was about 2 miles from where we saw it last.

Today I did a lot of driving and glassing. This was the best buck I saw today. It had good backs and eye guards, but really weak fronts.

I saw 4 coyotes today. 3 were in a pack at 1160 yards and the other ran across the road. Also about 45 minutes before dark I spotted a "coyote", which turned out to be a fox. As soon as I saw it in the bino's I could tell it was a fox. But it was so big I had to get a better look to convince myself it was actually a fox. It was about half a mile from public land so I didn't get a shot. First fox I see while hunting and its on private :(
